St. Dominic Village Nursing Home facilities include 144 licensed
beds providing intermediate nursing care. One hundred twenty
of the licensed
beds are Medicaid certified so that those residents who outlive their
resources can continue to receive quality nursing care. The nursing
home has established a reputation for excellence in the community.
Licensed and monitored by the Texas
Department of Aging and Disabilities Services, it has consistently ranked among the top nursing homes
in Harris County. Licensed nurses and other nursing personnel
staff the
facility on a 24 hour basis and are committed to promoting independence
at the resident’s highest practicable functioning level.
People living in the nursing home require moderate to extensive
assistance with activities of daily living including bathing,
dressing, grooming
and eating. Specialized services, such as therapeutic diets, rehabilitation
services (physical, speech and occupational) and a restorative
care program are provided according to physician direction. The
nursing
home also provides a secured unit for residents with Alzheimer’s
disease or related dementias whose behavior places them at risk.
St. Dominic Village has proactively developed an in-house phlebotomy
team
that draws specimens and monitors physician orders to promote quality
care.
St. Dominic Village has also developed a Wound Care Team whose
purpose is to implement a wound care program with a commitment
to excellence
as evidenced by positive resident outcomes. Wound and skin care
is an area of practice requiring a group of multi-disciplinary
professionals
functioning as a team.
Residents enjoy three hot meals a day, seven days a week and
are able to participate in a full range of activities, both
on and
off campus,
planned by three activities’ professionals under the supervision
of the Life Enrichment Coordinator. With the assistance of retired
priests, Catholic residents gain spiritual nourishment from daily
Mass,
regular celebration of the sacraments, seasonal services and daily
rosary. Spiritual enrichment programs are available to residents of
all faiths. Other amenities at no charge include satellite TV, daily
housekeeping services, laundry services, a library and
computer
lab with e-mail and internet access as well as transportation to and from
medical appointments on specified days. Residents also have access
to the
Sterling-Turner Wellness
and Fitness Center. Services provided
for a fee include private phone line, beauty/barber shop and
gift
shop.
