Computer
technology has come to St. Dominic Village. Five computers
specially designed for seniors are available to all residents 24
hours a day in the computer lab. St. Dominic Village was the
“beta” site for the MyGait computer network and “was the best
thing we’ve ever done” according to many residents. All
residents have their own e-mail addresses and Internet access.

A MyGait staff person comes weekly to
teach new residents to use the computer and to tutor those
who might have questions. The greatest thrill is watching seniors
approach the computer with doubt and then to witness the great
joy of accomplishment when a grandchild returns an e-mail message.
Truly poignant stories are told of residents connecting with
family members through e-mail, and surfing the Web has become
a favorite pastime of many. |
